We met in 2000 while attending chiropractic school, where we not only found our passion for chiropractic care but also found each other. In 2006, we welcomed our first child, Cole, into our lives. Over the years, our family has grown, and we are now proud parents of three wonderful boys: Cole, Dean, and Brett.

For many years, we lived in Holmdel, NJ, building our practice and serving our community with dedication. In 2020, we decided to embark on a new adventure by moving to the vibrant Mt. Pleasant, SC, and establishing Beyond Wellness Chiropractic in Mt. Pleasant. Our goal is to bring holistic, compassionate chiropractic care to this wonderful community.

About Dr. Dennis Hupka and Dr. Lisa Mazzella

Dr. Dennis Hupka’s journey to chiropractic care began with his service as a United States Marine. He went through boot camp in South Carolina at Parris Island in 1996, an experience that instilled in him discipline and a strong work ethic. After serving his country, Dennis pursued his passion for healthcare, graduating with honors from Texas Chiropractic College in 2003. Dr. Lisa Mazzella, his partner in both life and practice, graduated from the same college in 2004.

Dennis enjoys scuba diving and playing golf in his free time. His adventurous spirit also extends to his love for attending the Kentucky Derby, which he and Lisa have attended three times—in 2012, 2016, and 2019. One of their most memorable experiences was watching American Pharoah, a Triple Crown winner, race at Monmouth Park in 2015 to win the Haskell.

Our Adventures

We are avid boaters and enjoy exploring Charleston Harbor and all the creeks. Frequenting Shem Creek, we love dining at the local waterfront restaurants, fishing, and crabbing in the harbor, rivers, and creeks. Our family also enjoys attending Riverdogs baseball games, with Dennis particularly loving the Friday firework games. All three of our boys play baseball and share a deep passion for the game.

We live in the Park West section of town, appreciating the convenience of local shopping and supporting mom-and-pop stores and restaurants, often traveling by golf cart. We have a local “shrimp guy”—feel free to ask Dennis for his number! Our family loves spending time at the pool and beach, with the Isle of Palms (IOP) being our favorite spot.

Our Favorite Vacations

Lisa loves vacationing with the family. We’ve been to Disney a dozen times and owned a timeshare in Orlando until 2024. One of our most memorable vacations was to St. John in the USVI. We stayed at the Westin in St. John and rented a Jeep to explore the island. The undeveloped side of the island offers a serene experience, almost like being marooned with no one around. We swam with massive sea turtles and were amazed by the vibrant colors of the fish.
